Deadly plane crash likely caused by bird strike

University officials report "clear evidence" that bird strike brought down UND airplane
After nearly six months of investigating the cause of a crash last October that took the lives of two UND students, there is, according to university officials, "clear evidence" that a bird strike involving two or more Canadian geese is to blame. While the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), an independent governmental agency in charge of investigating aircraft related accidents, has not yet released an official, factual report as to the cause of the crash, evidence found at the crash site as well as information downloaded from onboard computers would suggest that the twin-engine Piper Seminole aircraft carrying Annette Klosterman and Adam Ostapenko crashed on Oct.

Government budget looked at by Senate

A bill was also presented and will be brought up again in two weeks
Student Senate met with a short agenda Sunday, the highlight being the presidential report by Tyrone Grandstrand. In his report, Grandstrand delivered a speech regarding the Student Senate budget and allowing the incoming Student Senators a chance to make change.

Amnesty hosts UND film series this week

Topics include peace, human trafficking and the death penalty.
The UND chapter of Amnesty International kicked off its weeklong film series yesterday with a look at human rights issues in Tibet. The student group is showing a film each night this week in the Memorial Union, with the films all looking at human rights issues facing the world today.

Schneider makes his bid for senate

G: Former UND football player's platform includes a tuition increase cap.
A current UND law student and former UND football player is running for an open seat in District 42. Mac Schneider, a third year law student, graduated with a history degree from UND in 2002. He plans to graduate this May from Georgetown University Law Center as he finishes his last year at UND.

Event planned today to discuss minimum wage

Day of action will be held at the post office in Grand Forks for the fourth year.
The First Presbyterian Church of Grand Forks is hosting the Universal Living Wage Day of Action today at the Grand Forks Post Office. The hour-long event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Bret Weber, a professor in the social work department, said that this is an important issue.

Forum aims to build relationships

UND event open to people around the region will look at community
After nearly two years in the making, a unique event is set to commence that intends to bring citizens from Grand Forks, the state, the region and UND together for a collaboration. The two-day event will cover topics on community-university collaborations, community diversity, community ecology, and community art.

UND's Staff Senate turns 10 this year

Group is celebrating the event at their regular meeting on May 14
UND's Staff Senate will be celebrating their 10th anniversary on May 14 as part of their regular monthly meeting. The meeting, held at 1 p.m., will consist of presenting President Kupchella with an appreciation plaque and serving cake to celebrate the occasion.
