A restraining order against the SBHE heats up the nickname debate.
It was announced last week that the State Board of Higher Education would have to stand down in its efforts to resolve the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo debacle. A district court judge granted a temporary restraining order giving officials from both sides of the issue another twist in an already tangled, multi-year battle.

Beyond Coal? Part two

Last week the Sierra Club's "Beyond Coal" initiative took on another phase of activity. I attended both the screening of the anti-coal film, "Coal Country" and the 10-minute (you heard it right) protest outside of Twamley. The proclaimed goal of this initiative is to get the coal plant on campus (the source of UND's heat) shut down and to replace it with a geothermal system, thus reducing the coal pollution and making UND cleaner, and of course, "greener" (whatever that means).

Look, lots of people play massively multiplayer online role-playing games. No doubt about it. Some people (a roommate o' mine, perhaps) take this gaming a bit too seriously. Some folks are absorbed by the World of Warcraft, others make a second life for themselves in Second Life (natch), and still others find solace in the comfort of Star Wars Galaxies, a universe wherein they can revel in the days of old, when only episodes four through six existed, and they were called episodes one through three.

Conquering the beauty standard

Being a woman in our society burdens us with unbelievable pressures. Normally I try to ignore these pressures, because they are shallow and inconsequential, but that does not mean society dismisses them just because I do. We are all judged by these arbitrary standards, regardless of our thoughts concerning them.
