Walkout

For the five-year anniversary, several students demonstrated against the war in Iraq.
A campus walkout to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War drew about 250 people throughout the day, according to officials of the group that held the events last Thursday. Isham Christie, a member of the UND chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), said that they were pleased with the turnout although they didn't know what to expect before the event started.

Recession woes unlikely to hit state, university

Business professor David Flynn said that the biggest impact will most likely be at the national level.
According to UND's Bureau of Business and Economic Research's 2008 Quarterly Forecast, the U.S. economy is now in recession and a negative Gross Domestic Product growth is expected in the year's first and second quarters; which is something UND business professor David Flynn predicts as not affecting North Dakota substantially.

Controversy surrounds November sorority party

The Gamma Phi Beta Sorority house became the subject of pubic criticism late last week, when photos of partygoers surfaced on the Internet showing them dressed in crude mock-ups of American Indian attire. The party took place in November 2007, but the consequences of the night are now just coming to light.

SHS pharmacy gets a booster shot

With the help of the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC), the scheduled remodeling of the Student Health Services facility was recently completed. The remodeling has increased the visibility of the pharmacy, providing students with clear access to discount medication.

Dorgan disappointed with Bush

The Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center is threatened by budget.
Sen. Byron Dorgan expressed disappointment with the Bush Administration recently when they announced that their 2009 budget proposal would cut nine percent of funding that supports agricultural research. The cut threatens to close down the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center.

Innovate ND nears selecting winners

Program narrowed the number of business
The Innovate ND program has narrowed their field of business ideas from 84 to 23. Innovate ND is a program started last year by the North Dakota Department of Commerce, the UND Center for Innovation, and the NDSU Research and Technology Department. It's a statewide economic development initiative designed to help entrepreneurs turn business ideas into functional businesses.
