Looking back on nine years of leadership

After serving as UND's leader for nine years, President Charles Kupchella will officially step down from the position on June 30. During his time in office, he helped to oversee record enrollment figures, dramatic increases in research and several large additions to the campus.

Final meeting sees diverse plate of issues

UND Student Senate met for the final time this academic year on Sunday night, addressing a full plate of issues ranging from Night Life funding to executive appointments to guns on campus. The session began by giving the floor to a wide variety of presentations given by both senators and non-senators.

Campus fallout continues over anti-semitism

Anti-Semitic harassment that occurred in UND residence halls this spring have recently received considerable attention by local media outlets, with some students and faculty in the university arguing that the administration hasn't done enough to address what they consider to be a hate crime.

Gamma Phi Beta put on probation

A party held by the UND chapter of Gamma Phi Beta sorority caused students, faculty and community members to voice their distress when pictures of the party were put online showing members dressed as Native Americans. The sorority was punished with a twelve-month conduct probation by the Dean of Students Office and the Gamma Phi Beta International has also put the sorority under some scrutiny.

Fraternity advances to nationals

UND's Phi Beta Lambda attended a state leadership conference from April 3 through April 5 at the Doublewood Inn in Fargo, North Dakota. Sara Folkestad, Public Relations coordinator for the Phi Beta Lambda business organization, said that the leadership conference happens each year.

Symposium covers issues facing planet

After the conclusion of the very successful Symposium on Sustainability that featured speakers such as Jean-Michel Cousteau, Winona LaDuke and Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND), many have called upon the organizers of the two-day conference to make it an annual event.

Rodriguez files first appeal

Convicted killer of Dru Sjodin, Alfonso Rodriquez, filed his appeal April 22, 2008. Rodriquez's attorney offered several arguments in seeking to overturn his death sentence for the murder of Sjodin. The appeal, which is 200 pages and was filed with the 8th Circuit U.

Fledgling bus service adds another shuttle

Michael Rocks-Macqueen, President and CEO of the Club Express Bus service, is expanding his business to include a second bus. The company, founded by Rocks-Macqueen at the end of his freshman year of college, began with a school bus found on eBay. The bus was driven from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
