The DS View: Dawn of a new age
As the semester's end draws near, one can't help but look toward the future with anticipation. UND is moving into a new era in more ways than one and seems to be moving in a progressive direction as far as administration is concerned, with the fresh perspective that will be rewarded to UND's student body.
Letter: Campus gun control policy
Evan Trosvik
Up until I read Chief Czapiewski's comments in the "Decision to be made on firearm policies" article on April 25, I never knew the UND Police operated on a policy of "Shoot first, ask questions later."
The sole goal for concealed carry holders to carry a firearm is to offer a first line of defense for themselves and others against an attacker prior to UND Police's arrival.
Letter: Time Out Week underappreciated
Thank you for posting information about this year's Time Out Week. I was disappointed; that even with all the advertising, how little of the UND campus community attended the events held on or around campus all week, or even knew what Time Out Week was for that matter.
Letter: Global warming is not debatable
On Earth Day David Barta wrote a rather misinformed column concerning climate change, asserting that "we as a world of people, have no idea what the hell we're doing…we shouldn't even be thinking about solutions until we're sure this is even a problem, because we don't know.
Protecting one self shouldn't raise danger
School shootings have been media fodder for years, pretty much exploding in terms of national concern after the tragic incidents at Columbine.
I remember that during my high school years, it was inevitable to watch 24-hour news networks go frantic over finding the solution to these high school tragedies.
Message to graduating seniors
I have a virtual sticky note on the desktop of my Powerbook with various quotations I've come across over the past few years.
As I write this, three of them come to mind as being especially important around this time:
"Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.
Letter: The human right to choose
Student Body Vice President Mike Crenshaw recently wrote an article in the Dakota Student voicing his stance on abortion. Although the article may have implied certain stances on God, that was not the focus and is therefore not touched on in this rebuttal.
Appreciation for the single
I wanted to say thank you to the single parents out there. I have been a single mother for almost seven years, so I know it's hard. We can't make quick decisions, we can't go out with people that easily, we can't participate in certain events going on very often, and if we do, we bring our children with.
I Feel Stupid and Contagious: Smells of School Spirit
It was a brave and heroic battle at Denver last April, our warriors in green and white took to the ice and fought Boston College in a fight to the death! It was glorious! Truly worthy of song in the Halls of Kahless for generations to come!
Who am I kidding?
It was the Charge of the not-so Light Brigade, Hakstol's Last Charge, the Denver Death March.
